Dr. Jared Hunter grew up locally here in Decatur, IL. From a young age Dr. Hunter has had a passion for animals of all kinds, agriculture, and small town living. He attended Southern Illinois University Edwardsville for his undergraduate in Biology and then went on to study veterinary medicine at the University of Illinois. He not only worked for Scovill Zoo during this time but he also interned here at Brush College Animal Hospital. After practicing for a few years in a neighboring town, he returned to BCAH to co-own and operate the practice. 

Dr. Hunter’s passion lies in the innovative practices and procedures he continues to provide to our patients. From general surgeries to more invasive cases, Dr. Hunter enjoys scrubbing in every day. When asked why he loves being a veterinarian, he replied: “ I enjoy my career because I have a wide variety of patients I am able to treat. No day is the same and I enjoy being able to educate our clients while building a relationship.” When Dr. Hunter isn’t treating patients, he is a family man spending time with his beautiful wife Desiree and their daughter Heidi and new baby boy Blaine. He is also an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting season and farming. You may see him at a local concert in the summertime, he can see over the whole crowd! He has a beautiful husky named Zeus, who will greet you when you come in. He looks forward to meeting you and your pet at your next visit.
